Why Wood ?

TreeLine Can Answer That With A Question,

"Why Not Wood ???"

Remember, this is a putter, not a driver or iron.

TreeLine Putters has succeeded in bringing tradition back to the game of golf by using wood, without sacrificing performance on the putting green, in fact, we believe we've enhanced it.  We’ve done this by creating a wood putter head that has all the characteristics of today’s most advanced technology; balance, weight, center of gravity, and MOI (moment of inertia: minimizing distance loss on off-centered shots).

So far as putter material is concerned, the golf industry as a whole has pulled the wool over the eyes of the general public.  The industry has come out with all this new technology, and they’ve pushed it towards what is easy to manufacture and how they can make the most money.  Most putter-head-material today is some sort of metal, usually cast. These manufacturers make hundreds of putters at a time, and, yes, they have brought technology to a new level—even TreeLine Putters has benefited from these technological breakthroughs.  But why does a putter need to be made out of steel?  It doesn’t.  The general population of the golf industry can make a lot more money off a steel putter than they can off a wood putter—and that is probably the biggest reason that most putters have gone steel.  So they’re doing this with their pocketbook in mind, not yours.

TreeLine Putters will be the first to say that the new steels and metals integrated into the modern golf club (titanium, maraging, forged steel etc.) are substantial improvements to the golfing world and the continuing need for competition in the industry.  Players want more distance off the tee and more feel and control for their short game.  But how far do you have to hit a putt?  TreeLine putters have been tested off the tee just for humor, and we were all surprised to see a ball go as far as 150 yards without breaking or cracking the strike plate of the putter (we don’t recommend or warranty testing this on your own).

Most golfers would agree that the characteristics to look for in a putter are, not necessarily in this order: accuracy & performance, feel, comfort & confidence (how your putter sits when addressing the ball), and, finally, aesthetics (is it a good looking putter?).  TreeLine Putters exceed all of these features.

TreeLine Putters have taken Testers Choice over many of today’s top putters on the market.  We at TreeLine are serious about our putters, and we’re making a statement here, that you don’t need a steel-headed putter to make a putt.  In fact, by using steel you are losing much of the desired feel so wanted by players throughout the world.

TreeLine Putters are scattered all across the world with many satisfied customers.  Some of our customers, however, haven’t quite caught on with how serious a putter TreeLine Putters are.  We feel it’s unfortunate that, at times, some of our customers are more impressed with the beauty they see whenever they look at one of our putters, and are afraid to take it out on the golf course.  Instead, they use it a little bit in the office, knocking a ball back and forth or displaying it for bragging purposes.  This is all fine and dandy, and we’re proud of the fact they’re something to boast about—however, we’ve gone to great lengths in research and development, and we’ve gone through several generations of wood heads to make them virtually perfect, to ensure the playability and durability of these fantastic golf putters.  Buy one today and find out for yourself just how wonderful these putters truly are.

TreeLine Putters make a phenomenal gift!  They’re gifts your recipient will treasure for many years.  They make great prizes, like “Closest to the Pin” awards and such.  In fact, one of our testimonials is from a retiree, an avid golfer, who received one of our putters as a retirement gift.  At first, he didn’t know what to think. He thought that it was more of a showpiece than something he could actually take out on the golf course.  He took his new gift home after his retirement party and sat there looking at it, and thought that he may as well knock a ball around on the carpet.  After his first hit, he knew that his new putter wasn’t just a showpiece, and the more he knocked the ball around, the more he was convinced to take it out on the course.  Later, he emailed his company he’d just retired from and said…

“I played 9 holes Sunday and had 5 one-putts with my new putter. Thanks, everyone.”

NOTE: One thing we might mention here, Rick has one of our earlier putter models.  Since then technology has revolutionized TreeLine Putters, and taken our putters to new and exciting heights.

Machined Putter Faces

TreeLine Putters do not have a machined face, and there are two, critical reasons for this.

1)    Machined Faces Accentuate and Magnify Bad Putts.

Machined faces cause more bad putts than good putts.  A machined face is a rough face, not a smooth face.  An iron has grooves to grip the ball and put backspin on the ball, I’ve even seen diamond coated wedges that over time will totally shred your ball.  These types of clubs are designed to grip your ball in order to help impart backspin to your ball during flight.  Backspin on your ball creates two advantageous effects; Backspin & Bite.  Backspin is what helps your ball climb high into the air, and Bite is what keeps your ball from rolling further than intended.

Remember, we are PUTTING, not driving or hitting approach shots.  We don’t want any backspin on our putt whatsoever!  Your average putter face loft is 3 degrees, and even at 3 degrees we don’t want any added grip from the putter face to keep the ball from turning over towards the hole.  The only reason putters have any positive loft at all, is because the putter needs to be able to lift the ball just a little so it can start tracking (rolling) towards the hole.

Another bad thing that comes from a machined face, and this is the worst side effect of all... “SIDESPIN”.  If your putter stroke is not perfect, and the face of the putter upon impact, slides or skids along the ball either towards your feet, or the opposite, you will impart side spin into your ball roll, which will make your ball track to the right or left, depending on which directional spin you impart to your ball roll.  Even if you do make a smooth, perfectly true stroke, but your face is open or closed upon ball impact, you will still impart sidespin to your ball roll.  The point is; the rougher the face, the more grip your putter will have on the ball, and therefore the more perfect your putting stroke must be in order to get a true roll out of your putt.  See figures one two and three below.

TreeLine Putters are made with a smooth face which helps eliminate sidespin for bad putting strokes.  It does work!  “Common Sense” tells all.

2)    Machined Faces are Hogwash, in other words they are a Gimmick.

In today’s market, manufacturers are always looking for ways to cut costs, and still maintain quality control.  Machined faces are just one of the ways manufacturers have been able to increase production of putters and still make a good looking face, but it’s a gimmick.  You see, it takes much less time for a big machine to cut the face of a putter and make it flat, than it does to polish the surface.  And when a machine is finished with that step, it leaves little tiny grooves in a repeated pattern, which can be pleasing to the eye, and make you think that it is new and improved technology.  The fault lies with all the marketing world, they are the ones who’ve pulled the wool over the public’s eye and pushed us towards what they say is “New & Improved Technology.”  Don’t let them fool you, a polished putter face is much, much more forgiving than a rough grippy machine faced putter.

You might be wondering, “Then why do so many professional golfers use machined faced putters?”  The answer is that all of them don’t, and the ones that do, have a very solid putting stroke.  And let’s not forget that the professional that do use machine faced putters are being paid millions of dollars by those big, name brand companies that manufacture these putters, it's all in the name of a buck.  More often than not, the exact putters these professionals are using aren’t even available to the public.  You may think you’re using the same putter they are, but more than likely their putter is a prototype built just for them, in the likeness of the corresponding putter sold on the market, but still, it is probably different.  And that goes especially for the rest of the clubs in their bag.

Remember, the rougher the face of a club, the more spin your stroke will impart to the ball, and hopefully you have a perfect putting stroke, that way the only spin you will ever impart to the ball is backspin.  If you are putting, you want your ball to start turning over in a true forward roll towards the hole as quickly as possible, TreeLine Putters do just that.  TreeLine Putters have a polished face which provides you with the most forgiving attributes in golf when it comes to eliminating sidespin and backspin. Order yours today!
